Florida Trip

Friday morning we will be leaving to go to Dade City, FL for one of my sister's 80th birthday.  I have 5 sisters and 1 brother and most of us will be there.  It is going to be a great time of telling the tales of yesterday.  We all have different versions it seems.  I have also been getting some request to make cakes, pumpkin rolls, bull dog brittle and other desserts for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I hope I don't run out of energy before I get it done.  At least one of my children and their family are planning on coming home for the Thanksgiving holiday.  I love every minute of the time we spend together making more memories.

Friday at last

It is finally Friday, not that I want time to past so fast, but because I have some fun plans for Saturday.  We are taking a day trip to the Florida Caverns and I am excited about seeing the sites.  We are having homecoming at church on Sunday and I know that we will be blessed to be in the house of the Lord.  Our church choir will be doing most of the singing in the afternoon.  I look forward to the fellowship with all our guest and members.  I have to begin getting ready to cook for Sunday dinner at church. I always take to much, but I enjoy it.   All are invited.

Life is Good!

It is a beautiful day and life is good in southwest Georgia.  The election is tomorrow so I hope everyone will go and vote.  We are looking for some frost this weekend, so time to bring in those plants that you have on the porch.  I have been considering buying a small green house, but decided that I don't really have enough plants to warrant it.  I'm getting ready for the holidays because the kids and grand kids will be coming home.  It will be wonderful having them home for a few days.  It will soon be time to get out the decorations.  I love Christmas!!!!!!  Have a wonderful week everyone.

Cloudy Day

It was cloudly and very warn for this time of the year when I got up this morning.  I thought for sure we would get some needed rain, but I guess God didn't think we needed it yet.  I cooked supper for our Chamber Leadership Class last night.  We had 30 in attendance.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal and dessert.  It always makes you feel good when people eat your cooking.  It has been a very busy few days for me.  We had company that came in on Thursday and went home on Monday.  There was some cooking and cleaning goin on!!!!, but it was fun too.  We are going to a RCD banquet tonight, so I can relax and enjoy someone elses cooking.  I have an outing planned for tomorrow with some of my sisters, but no plans for Thursday (at least yet).

Busy Week

It has been a crazy week that has not left me with much time to do my blogging, but I think I have it under control now.  I have got my peanuts ready to make my peanut butter.  I haven't made this before, but it sounds easy.  Getting ready to start on Thanksgiving and Christmas makings.  I usually share with friends, so I make a lot of different things, like pumpkin rolls, lemon drops, ice box fruit cake, bull dog brittle, cinnamon rolls and more.  The house always smells good when you are baking.  It is a lot of fun and always brings a smile when sharing.

Things to do in a small town

It is sure to be a great day, with the temperatures coming down some.  It was in the 60's this morning on the back porch.  We took a little trip last week and had a great time.  We will be going to Tennessee next weekend to visit and hopefully see some fall colors.  Things are starting to happen around here with the Mural Conference coming in October and a group of people coming next week from Leadership Georgia.  It is great when you live in a small town and people come from everywhere to enjoy the visiting and all the fun things to do here.  The Swamp Gravy play starts its regular season next month.  It would be a great time to visit the south, so come on everyone and enjoy some fine dining and shopping and lots of fun exploring.

Waiting for a solution.

What a day it has been!  God is good all the time, but sometimes he has more confidence in me than I have in myself.  I have been working on a problem, finally figured out what it was, but haven't yet got enough of the information needed to correct it.  Uncle Sam loves that!!!!!!  He can charge you extra for not knowing all the ins and outs of the IRS.  Oh well, life goes on with or without a solution for me to give them.  I thought it pretty good just to figure out what happened in the beginning that lead to the end, that isn't what it should have been.  Tomorrow is a brand new day and the solution will come after I sleep on it.

Life is just a bowl of cherries with a little mud mixed in.

AH, the good ole days.  Just thinking about the growing up years when there was no tv, just a radio and we thought life was good.  We worked hard, went to bed early, got up before day.  Mama made biscuits from scratch, with homemade jam, ham from the smoke house and eggs from the hen house.  We had everything we needed and thought we were the luckest people in the world.  Today if we want breakfast we have a bowl of ceral or maybe go to Hardees.  Things are good most of the time, God is good all the time.  We have to have a little mud in order to appreciate the beaches..

New Day

The weather is finally getting cooler and there is less gnats, which makes it much nicer when sitting on the back porch in the early morning.  It won't be long before I will complain that it is to cold to be sitting out there.  We went to Tennessee for a few days.  It rained and rained and then rained some more as we were driving home on Sunday.  That makes for a stressful drive.  We brought back some wonderful tasting Tennessee tomatoes and I spent most of yesterday making tomato relish.  In the kitchen is my second choice of places to be with the back porch being number one.  I'm always looking for something new to try, so if anyone has some great receipes, I will be glad to try them.

Beautiful Morning

Good morning fellow bloggers.  It is a wonderful day.  The weather is wonderful, the sun bright and the air crisp and the birds are singly beautifully and I am alive and well.  What more could anyone ask.  I have been making some jelly that has been very tasty.  With the holidays coming up, I will be in the kitchen alot.  If anyone has some great receipes that they would like to share, I would be thrilled to try them out.  Sweets are the best, but I'm in for trying most anything.

The happening things in a small town.

The weather is getting cooler and you can feel the fall in the air.  A lot of things are going on in this small town.  We have about 200 people coming next week from Leadership Georgia to see Swamp Gravy.  It is a play that is done twice a year, the month of October and the month of March.  It is always a great entertainment.  We will be having the Mural Conference in October.  There will be people here from serveral countries. There is lots to do and see when your in this little town, not the least is the great restaurants with really scrumptous southern cooking. We were on a little vacation last week and will be going to Tennessee next weekend.  Hope to see lots of fall colors up there.

Old Fashion Words Explained

My computer decided to die, had to bury it and get me a new one.  Those things were not made to last, at least not at my house. Anyway,  live is good.  I thought I would give the answers to an early blog that I did.  So here goes.

We were fixing to take a trip and do some site seeing.  Mama told us to put all our bags in the cooter hull.  Dad was driving and I think his foot must have gotten stuck to the foot feed, because he was going really fast.  On our list of things to see was this house that was said to be hainted.   When we arrived at the hainted house, we could smell the carne really bad.  We guessed that some poor animal had died and no one had buried it.  Later we stopped to eat at this nice restaurant and there was a lot of young boys there and they were flirting with me and my sister.  Mama said for us not to even look at them, because all they had on their mind was poon taine.

Looking forward to fall

We're planning on a vacation to Tennesee this fall.   The colors are really gorgous along in October.  Just riding and enjoying the view makes me a happy camper.  The colors just aren't as vibrant in southwest Georgia.  If you have never been up around the great lakes in mid October you have missed some beautiful sites.  I lived there for about thirty years and always marveled at the beautiful fall colors.  So plan you a vacation this fall and head north.  You want be sorry that you did, just don't go to late, because the snows often come early.

Back Porch Living

Sitting on the back porch early in the morning, drinking coffe and watching the birds flock to the feeders.  We have a new one this morning that hasn't been coming.  He is a beautiful yellow color with a black stripe down the back.  I love to watch them fly in and out of the yard.  We have ducks and geese that swim out in the pond and they too are fun to watch as they take their baths and chase each other around.  There is nothing quite like sitting on the back porch and enjoying nature.

Back porch thinking

Having coffee early in the moring on the back porch and remembering the sayings of days gone by.  For example cooter hull, haints, poon taine, carne, foot feed, to reckly, fixing to, just to name a few.  If you remember these days, let me know if you remember what these words mean.  I thought it might be fun to see how many you get right.  I'll give the answers next time, unless you already have them figured out.

Ghost Stories

I remember as a child growing up, my Mom telling us ghost stories.  I would be so scared that I would sleep with my head under the covers.  I still remember some of those stories.  My husband past away 4 years ago and some times I can still smell the cigarette smoke as though he was here.  We were discussing ghost stories at the office this morning and I was surprised that other people had their own ghost stories.  Two of the girls said that they can hear noises in their home that can not be explained.  One said that when she takes pictures in the house you can always see a strange image in the photo.  Strange, but maybe there are things lurking in the night!
